Turan Oflazoglu
(b. 1932)
graduated from the English Philology and Philosophy Departments at Istanbul University. He studied playwriting and dramatic literature in the USA. He has translated works by Shakespeare, Lorca, Kafka and Nietzche into Turkish. His major plays include Deli Ibrahim (Ibrahim the Mad—winner of the 1968 Turkish Language Association Drama Award), IV. Murat (Murat IV—winner of the 1970 TRT Achievement Award), Sokrates Savunuyor (Defence of Socrates / 1971), Kosem Sultan / 1980—winner of the 1982 Avni Dilligil Drama Award) and Fatih (1981). Sevgi Hakani (Sovereign of Love / 1986) is comprised of his poems.
