Enis Batur
(b. 1952)
completed his university education at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara. One of the pioneers of innovative poetry in the 1970s, his voluminous output is rich and varied in both form and content. Among his principal works are Eros ve Hgades (Eros and Hgades—poems / 1973), Bir Ortacag Yalnizligi (A Medieval Solitude—poems / 1973), Nil (The Nile—poetic texts / 1975), Ara-Kitap (Apochrypha—experimental texts / 1976), Iblise Gore Incil (The Bible According to Lucifer—poems / 1979), Siir ve Ideoloji (Poetry and Ideology—essays / winner of the 1979 Turkish Language Association Essay Award), Kandil (Oil Lamp—parables / 1980), Tahta Troya (Wooden Troy—critical essays / 1981), Tugralar (Monograms—poems / 1984), Sarnic (Cistern—poems / 1985), Bu Kalem Bukalemun (This Pen Is a Chameleon—articles / 1988), Gri Divan (Gray Divan—poems / 1990), Aglayan Kadinlar Lahdi (The Sarcophagus of Mourning Women—poetry / 1993) and Opera 1—4004 ( narrative poem / 1996).
