Ferit Edgu
(b. 1936)
lived for six years in Paris, where he studied ceramics. For many years he worked as a copywriter and later ran a publishing house. The absurdity of life, sexual obsessions, deterioration and estrangement of the intellectual are among his main themes. His short story collections include Av (Hunting / 1968), Bir Gemide (On Shipboard—winner of the 1979 Sait Faik Short Story Award) and Dogu Oykuleri (Eastern Tales / 1996). Edgu's Ders Notlari (Class Notes) won the 1979 Turkish Language Association Essay Award. Eylulun Golgesinde Bir Yazdi (It Was a Summer in the Shadow of September) was the co-winner of the 1988 Sedat Simavi Literaure Award. Seyir Sozcukleri (Words for a Voyage / 1996) and Dag Siirleri (Mountain Poems / 1999) are his major poetry collections.
